2007-2008 Dress Standards
(Revised 08-01-07)

The purpose of requiring dress standards is to help students maintain neatness, good grooming, safety, and a wholesome community atmosphere at Erie Day School. Anything that draws unusual attention to the child often deters from a wholesome EDS learning atmosphere.

The dress standards are to be followed daily by all students in Grades 1 through 8. All dress articles are available at numerous local retail stores as well as through the Lands´ End catalog (with the exception of plaid jumpers and skirts) and at the Red Door (located at 124 West 9th Street).

Erie Day School reserves the right to determine when the Dress Standards have not been met.

GIRLS - Grades 1-8

JUMPER (Grades 1-4) - EDS plaid, dark navy blue, or khaki jumper (length must be no higher than 2" from top of the knee) (We encourage girls wearing the jumper to also wear tights - white or navy blue only)

SKIRT (Grades 5-8) - EDS plaid, dark navy blue, or khaki skirt (length must be no higher than 2" from top of the knee; tight skirts are unacceptable) (We encourage girls wearing the jumper to also wear tights - white or navy blue only)

SKIRTS - Dark navy blue or khaki Skirts (length must be no higher than 2" from top of the knee)

SHIRT< - Plain white or dark navy blue shirt with collar or polo-style shirt (no logos) with collar (long or short sleeved), or plain white or dark navy blue turtleneck. (Shirts must be of acceptable width and length in order to remain tucked in with all but the top button buttoned; shirts are not to be layered)

SOCKS - Plain knee socks, crew socks or tights, dark navy blue or white, NO short, sport or ped socks

SLACKS - Dark navy blue or khaki, NO Levi or similar brand of rivet construction is acceptable, NO leggings, stretch pants, cargo pants, bell-bottoms, or low-riders. (ALL pants must be worn at waist)

SHORTS - Dark navy blue or khaki dress shorts, Bermuda or walking shorts, NO cargo shorts (length must be no higher than 2" from top of the knee) may be worn April 15th through September 30th

SWEATERS & SWEATSHIRT - V-neck, crew neck or cardigan in plain white or dark navy blue, or EDS sweatshirt (NO hoodies)

BELT - Where there are belt loops, a solid colored (navy, brown, black) belt must be worn. It is unacceptable to cut belt loops off of slacks!

BOYS - Grades 1-8

PANTS - Dark navy blue or khaki, NO Levi or similar brand of rivet construction is acceptable, NO cargo pants, bell-bottoms, wide-leg pants, or low-riders. (ALL pants must be worn at waist)

SHORTS - Dark navy blue or khaki dress shorts, Bermuda or walking shorts, NO cargo shorts (length must be no higher than 2" from top of the knee) may be worn April 15th through September 30th

SHIRT - Plain white or dark navy blue shirt or polo-style shirt (no logos), with collar (long or short sleeved), or plain white or dark navy blue turtleneck (ALL shirts must be tucked in with all but the top button buttoned, cuffs on long sleeved shirts must be buttoned or rolled)

SWEATERS & SWEATSHIRT - V-neck, crew neck or cardigan in plain white or dark navy blue, or EDS sweatshirt (NO hoodies)

SOCKS - Plain dark navy blue or white crew socks, NO short, sport or ped socks

ADDITIONAL DRESS GUIDELINES, Boys & Girls - Grades 1-8:

SHOES - Solid color (navy, brown, black) comfortable dress shoes. Any shoes with ties MUST be tied. Shoe heels must not exceed 1 1/2"; no deep treaded soles. SNEAKERS, HIKING BOOTS, BIRKENSTOCKS, OR SHOESwith open toes or heels are NOT permitted to be worn during the regular school day.

GENERAL APPEARANCE - We require that all articles be clean, pressed, and in good condition (i.e. buttons replaced, hems sewn, etc.).

JEWELRY - Jewelry may be worn but is limited to watches, rings, & simple (no chandelier) earrings.

HAIR - Hair must be clean, combed and of natural color (no unnatural colors such as blue, green, purple, etc.) and must be styled to stay out of the student's eyes. Boys´ hair must be at or above the top of the shirt collar.

Boys and Girls - Grades 1-3 : Physical Education: Students in Grades 1-3 are not required to change into navy blue shorts and the EDS t-shirt for Phys. Ed. Classes. Sneakers are required for ALL students for Phys. Ed.

Boys and Girls - Grades 4-8 :Physical Education: Grades 4-8 wear navy blue athletic shorts and white Erie Day School t-shirts that are purchased from EDS Parent Group. White socks and sneakers are required.

Boys and Girls - Preschool & Kindergarten : Preschool and Kindergarten students are not required to follow the dress standards for Grades 1-8. Children should be outfitted in comfortable but durable clothing. Sneakers are permitted and are required for gym classes.
