Erie Day School participated in the Penn State Behrend Speech and Debate Tournament on Saturday, April 22nd.
Erie Day School was among schools such as Harding Middle School, Fairview Middle School, and Northeast Middle School that competed.
Results for EDS:
Original Oratory: To give an original speech that is entertaining, persuasive, and/or informative. Maximum time is 8 minutes.
1st Place - Athan Diniaco, Grade 8; 2nd Place - Harrison Romero, Grade 8
Oral Interpretation of Literature: To present a piece of literature and interpret the emotions, attitudes, and ideas of the characters, plot, and themes. Maximum time is 8 minutes.
2nd Place - Zane Lippert, Grade 8
Duo Interpretation: To present a piece of literature and interpret the emotions, attitudes, and ideas of the characters, plot, and themes. Done with two people. Maximum time is 10 minutes.
Tie for 1st Place - Alex Campagne/Ella Harrington, Grade 6 and Tanvi Udgiri/Naomi Warshaw, Grade 5
2nd place - Ved Patel/Paul Pelkowski, Grade 6
Impromptu Debate: Students compete against other students in arguing a position on a topic presented at the competition. Students are not told of the topics until the tournament. Three rounds of competition against a different opponent each time. Students have 10 minutes to create a 2-3 minute position speech and a 1-2 rebuttal.
