Erie Day School One of Two Regional Schools Recognized as an Outstanding Visual Arts Community
Erie Day School has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Art Education Association (PAEA) as an Outstanding Visual Arts Community, an honor celebrating schools across Pennsylvania that demonstrate an exceptional commitment to visual arts education.
Erie Day School is one of two school communities in Erie to receive the recognition.
The designation recognizes visual arts programs that are rigorous and inclusive, highly accessible, and highly visible. Criteria include standards-based art education at all grade levels, dedicated instructional space and resources, professional development for art educators, and opportunities for students to participate fully in visual arts programming.
“At Erie Day School, we believe educating the whole child means giving students meaningful opportunities to create, explore, problem-solve and express themselves,” said Donald Fuller, Head of School. “The arts are not an extra here. They are an important part of the well-rounded education we believe every child deserves.
”Visual arts instruction at Erie Day School is led by Jennifer Peters, who earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Temple University. Peters brings 20 years of experience as an art educator and department leader and also serves on the PAEA Board of Directors, representing northwestern Pennsylvania.
At Erie Day School, students experience visual arts throughout their education, supported by dedicated instructional time, space and resources. Student work is celebrated throughout the School and shared with the broader community. PAEA specifically recognizes schools that make the arts visible, support arts-specific curriculum and participate in statewide opportunities such as Youth Art Month.
The recognition reflects Erie Day School’s broader educational philosophy: a strong education extends beyond core academics, giving children opportunities to discover their talents, develop creativity and become confident, well-rounded learners.
